excelleRx launches e-prescribing pilot program

Philadelphia-based excelleRx on February 16 announced the launch of an electronic-prescription pilot program for physicians who work with clients of its subsidiary, Hospice Pharmacia.  The program will allow participating physicians to submit patient prescriptions electronically, which will then be screened for appropriateness and possible drug/therapy interactions, prior to dispensing upon request. Physicians will be provided with Sprint/Nextel BlackBerry devices, with HP’s custom patient medication management software already installed. HP anticipates that the introduction of e-prescribing will result in prescription reconciliation that is more accurate and less time-consuming.
