Skin and Wound Care at the End-of-Life

Objectives:  This program was developed for nursing and pharmacy professionals working in the hospice and/or palliative care environments.  After participation in this continuing education activity, the participants will be able to complete the following learning objectives:

  1. Discuss the basic structure and function of the skin and recognize changes unique to the end-of-life patient.
  2. Identify how wounds develop in patients at the end-of-life.
  3. Recognize different classifications and stages of wounds.
  4. Describe the characteristics of pressure ulcers, tumor wounds, venous and arterial ulcers.
  5. Describe available treatment options for palliative wound care.
