Live CE Program: Practical Approaches for Appropriate Opioid Rotation & Conversion

Activity Learning Objectives: After participation in this continuing education program, the participant will be able to complete the following program learning objectives:

  1. Describe the approaches to opioid dosing for both opioid-naive and opioid-tolerant patients.
  2. Recognize when it is necessary to consider opioid titration and how to appropriately titrate the opioid.
  3. Identify common clinical scenarios that may warrant a need for opioid rotation.
  4. Discuss conversion between different opioid analgesics, dosage formulations and routes of administration, given a pain management case scenario.
  5. Identify common monitoring parameters that are necessary when initiating or changing an existing opioid regimen.

Target Audience: This program was developed for the novice nursing professional and healthcare practitioner.  However, more experienced practitioners are welcome to participate and may find this program to be a helpful refresher.

  • Introduction - 5 minutes
  • Main presentation - 50 to 55 minutes
